H.O.G. Big Five to the rescue!
- Chapter Social Event
On a sunny Saturday just before Christmas, the Harley Owners Group® Big Five Chapter met up at the Sasol Garage near White River for a very special mission - a mass ride to the SPCA kennels in White River with a lifesaving donation.
White River SPCA does not receive funding from local government nor from other animal rights organizations and are not subsidized by the National Council of SPCA’s. This means that the organisation relies totally upon the generosity of the local residents and businesses for the survival of the organisation's many rescued dogs, cats and other animals.
The H.O.G.® Big Five Chapter had collected over R10 000 and then approached Pick 'n Pay White River to assist in helping to purchase food at reduced prices for the furry friends at the SPCA. It had come to their attention that the organization was in dire need of food before the Christmas season.
“This was to be our last charity drive for the year, and what better way than to assist an organization that needs help from the public?” H.O.G. director Oskar Rottcher said about the event. “Animals in distress always touch the hearts of us humans, and so it was that some 18 bikes with their entourage made the journey through town, and past Pick n’Pay as well to show our appreciation to them for their participation.”
On arrival at the SPCA the Kombi transporting the food was unloaded by the members of the Big Five Chapter, with much sweat in the heat of the summer morning, but great was the reception they received as the pile of food continued to grow. There were happy faces all around as the quantity was seen.
“Thanks go to the members of the Big Five Chapter, who took time off before the holidays to help with the charity ride. It was another good deed added to the charity rides of the year to keep those happy tails wagging and the fluffy ones purring, ” Rottcher concluded.
