The Glorious 12th - Island Style
- Chapter Ride
The "Glorious Twelfth" is famous in the United Kingdom, as it marks the traditional start of the grouse shooting season in Scotland. On the sunny island of Mauritius however, the glorious 12th of August was celebrated in a joyful and peaceful "island style" with a ride to The Hidden Garden Restaurant at Black River.
For once, the final destination of our monthly ride did not bring us to a glitzy hotel on the Island but to a little piece of Eden - the Hidden Garden Restaurant. This charming venue is managed by our Chapter Director Flintstone and served a superb BBQ lunch specially prepared for our members and guests in the very cosy atmosphere of the Bali garden.
The planned ride for the day started at the Harley-Davidson® dealership in Mapou/Bellevue at 9 a.m. where all the riders and their pillions were welcomed by the H-D dealership staff for a nice breakfast before hitting the road at 10 a.m. The 25 motorcycles took the motorway in the southern direction thereafter via beautiful rustic roads that brought us to the cliffs of Gris Gris in Souillac where we stopped for a short while to take advantage of the beautiful panorama view. We then rode along the beautiful southwest coast to reach the Beach of La Prairie near the beautiful Le Morne village.
We were playing hide and seek with the clouds and the rain, finally arriving at around 1 p.m. in Black River at the Hidden Garden Restaurant for the BBQ Lunch where family members and guests were waiting for us. The 50 participants were thrilled with the scrumptious BBQ lunch prepared for them consisting of a welcome cocktail, snacks, palmist salad, beef ribs, ribeye steaks, lamb racks, chicken skewers, gratin dauphinois, saffron rice, sauteed veggies, tarte tatin and fruit salad with Chantilly cream! Here in Mauritius we ensure our members are well catered for. We only headed back home around 4pm!
This ride was also special as we took the opportunity to hand over to two of our members their officer patch (Activities Officer patch to Roopesh and Photographer patch to Stephen). The 35th H.O.G.® Anniversary limited edition pins were proudly handed over to Victor, Roopesh, Pierre and Flintstone as a token for their hard work during the year.
During the week preceding the ride we also remitted the HO.G. Mauritius Island Rocker Patch to two of our new members (Didier and Jean-Luc).
Mauritius is now ready to hit the summer months and we are already looking forward to our upcoming monthly rides and end of year party. If you happen to be in Mauritius at that time, you are most welcomed to join us !
